Anxiety & Overwhelm

Anxiety doesn’t always look like panic or constant fear. For many women, it shows up as a persistent sense of urgency, the feeling that you need to keep moving, stay productive, and manage everything well.

You may find yourself overbooking your schedule, filling every quiet moment, and struggling to slow down. On the outside, you appear capable and driven. On the inside, your body rarely feels at rest.

When Anxiety Is Felt More Than Thought

Many women don’t realize how tense they are until they finally pause. When you sit still, you may notice tight shoulders, shallow breathing, a clenched jaw, or an ongoing sense of hurry beneath the surface.

This kind of anxiety often lives in the body. It’s less about specific worries and more about a nervous system that has learned to stay alert and ready. It can develop through:

  • Life stage transitions or continual stress

  • High responsibility at work or home

  • Past emotional or relational wounds

Over time, this constant “on” state can feel normal, even though it’s exhausting.

Overfunctioning -> Overwhelm

Women who experience anxiety this way are often responsible, conscientious, and deeply attuned to others. You may carry more than your share, struggle to set boundaries, and feel guilty resting or saying no.

Therapy isn’t about becoming less driven or capable. It’s about understanding why your system stays in motion and learning how to create steadiness without relying on constant effort.
